Hear the Star-Spangled Symphonic Salute

Star-Spangled Symphonic Salute

Veterans Day is right around the corner, and you can honor the men and women who have served the country by attending the Star-Spangled Symphonic Salute. The Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra is performing the concert on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center – Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Tickets start at $21 and go up to $95, and they are on sale now.

What to Expect

This concert will feature a variety of pieces, including “Old Man River” from “Show Boat,” “America the Beautiful,” and “God Bless America.” Each song was selected as a tribute to the troops. There will be seven movements in all, and you can expect them to make you feel proud to be an American. It wouldn’t be shocking if you shed a few tears during the performance. It will be quite moving.

While you will feel moved during the concert, make sure you don’t clap during individual movements. You can clap after the entire work is finished, but not during the slight pause between movements. It is also customary to clap when the maestro enters the concert hall and when a soloist is introduced.

Meet the New Maestro

If you haven’t been to the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra for a while, this is your chance to see the new maestro in action. The symphony hired Hector Guzman last year. He was one of 144 applicants, some of which came from as far as Israel. He was selected as a finalist and performed a concert last season as part of the selection process. Now, he is officially the maestro. This is his third show as the conductor. This follows Beethoven Meets Broadway and Dia de los Mozart. Home for the Holidays, Some Enchanted Evening, and Symphony Spectacular will round out the season.
